What makes me come alive

I love aeroplanes. The thought of being in one or driving one or even just looking at one just brings me to life. The immense pleasure and joy that I experience when the plane turns onto the runway. And the thrill as the planes engines roar to life and the plane starts gaining speed, tumbling down the runway and the feeling I get when I am pressed down on my seat as the plane’s nose goes up. All those feelings I get is the reason why I love aeroplanes, and I want to be a pilot when I grow up.

The MD-11 is an awesome aircraft

I remember the moment in my life where I knew that I want to spend my life around planes. I was five years old, and I was getting ready to go home from England. And I stared through the glass window, at the majestic Boeing 747. The jumbo jet, queen of the skies. I stood there marvelling at the plane, wondering how on earth something so big and heavy can even fly. And through the years, my passion for these planes has only been increasing exponentially. I spend my spare time watching videos about different aeroplanes, and watching air crash investigation documentaries, and researching the different types of aeroplanes, and their pros and cons.

The plane that started it all

It is not just the aeroplanes that I love, but it is more of the feeling that I get when I ride the plane. For me, riding a plane means that I’m getting out of Hong Kong, meaning that my vacation is starting, and I have a whole summer of fun to look forward to. Making flying on an aeroplane a truly special experience for me.

My all-time favourite plane has to be the airbus a350. The “raccoon mask” that it wears is both extremely cool and unique to this specific plane. The wings on the plane are specifically designed to make flying 25% more fuel-efficient, and it also looks really sleek. Though I have never been able to ride one, I know that when I become a pilot, I would definitely fly that plane.

One thing that I must definitely put onto the table, is that Airbus is better than Boeing. There are so many cases of Boeing trying to copy other companies that it just makes me sick.  Airbus is also a lot more technologically advanced. Their planes are more comfortable and give you more leg space. I just think that airbus also has cooler designed aeroplanes. I could go on forever about why Airbus is awesome and Boeing is bad, but I’ll just leave you with that.

One might say that I am a bit of a geek when it comes to planes, but that is who I am, and I am glad that I know what I want my life to be like, and I know what I am going to do, so I do not have to worry as much about choosing courses that I need to take. I hope that one day, I will be able to achieve my dream of working with planes.

  2. This was a very passionate essay, and although I do not share the same love for airplanes, you definitely convinced me of its beauty. By including specific childhood memories about marveling Boeing 747, it made your essay have a feeling of nostalgia, in which it brought me back to the times when I was young and appreciated all the fascinating things around me. I also like your brutally honest review about Airbus being better than Boeing, but I believe you could have dove deeper into the reasons why as the arguments presented were not enough to convince me. Perhaps explain why the seats are more comfortable and how Boeing copies other companies. However, I do find it ironic that when you were five years old, you were in awe of the Boeing 747 and that you currently dislike the Boeing. Best of luck on becoming a pilot when you grow up! Great job on the essay!
