2. Which of your pieces was the most challenging to write? Give three reasons and explain.
I would say that the descriptive essay was probably the hardest thing to write. Reason 1: I am bad at using descriptive language. It has always been hard for me to show and not tell when I am writing. 2: I am not really good at implementing good grammar in my writing. So it was definitely hard for me to make sure that my paper was free of mistakes(no I did not have Grammarly at the time of writing that)3: I found it hard coming up with ideas to write about. I spent a lot of time thinking about what I should write about, and that cost me some time so that led me to rush the writing a bit.
3. Which of your pieces was the most enjoyable to write? Give three reasons and explain.
I would say the piece I found most enjoyable to create was the credo presentation. 1: It was something that had no guidelines and I could basically do whatever I wanted. And I enjoy that freedom. 2: I was able to be myself, and present my humour, and my thoughts about different subjects. This made it so that I could basically say everything on the spot. (well, of course, I practised a bit, but every version of what I said was different) 3: I was able to make other people laugh. And I enjoy bringing joy to others and making them feel happy, especially because school is really stressful, and this helped me blow off some steam, and maybe helped some others think about taking life more lightheartedly.
4. What are your strengths and weaknesses as a writer? Explain.
I think that when I am able to write about something I am passionate about, I can really thrive, and create something that I am proud of. A weakness of mine would be the grammar, and all the small mistakes I make that lower the quality of my writing. Also If I’m not interested in the topic, I tend to not try as hard.
5. What have you done to develop your strengths and minimize your weaknesses as a writer? How successful do you feel you have been? Explain.
I have been making sure that when I have the choice, I write about the things that I am most passionate about. If I have no control over it, I try to get myself into that mindset to make me somewhat more interested in the topic. I have been more successful in developing my strengths this semester, than minimizing my weaknesses. I have been given a lot more opportunities to write about something that I like. I have downloaded Grammarly, so that has helped me see what mistakes I tend to make, so I guess I am somewhat improving.
6. What kind of future career or field of study are you considering? What kinds of writing might be important in this career or field? Explain, giving specific examples.
I am interested in being a pilot. I think that I have to be detailed when writing reports about the different things that I notice about an aircraft. And I have to be specific when reporting problems with the hardware or software should there be any malfunctions.
7. What advice would you offer the College Writing teachers as they plan this unit for next year? What might be some additional pieces of writing to add and why? How was the timing and pacing? Did you receive enough feedback? Did you receive enough instruction and input so you knew how to do each assignment? You can make specific comments about specific assignments here. What did you like or not like and why? What would make this unit more student-friendly provide more learning? Etc.
I would advise them to put more things in the grade book to balance out the grades. Maybe an additional piece of writing we could do would be a humorous story. Because why not. I think the timing and pacing is fine. I would have liked to see more feedback from my teacher for more of my assignments, not just a select few. I think we had enough instruction and input. I liked the story with a twist ending assignment. I liked the fact that we were able to write anything we wanted. I would maybe have some grammar lessons because right now, I have no clue when it comes to that sort of thing.
